BharOS

Have you heard about India’s own operating system, BharOS? If not, we have you covered. Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology and the Union Education Minister, recently launched BharOS, creating a buzz in Indian technology.

BharOS is an initiative by the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT). It was revealed in a recent event by Union Telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. He congratulated the team for their efforts in taking the ‘Make in India’ pledge toward success.

This operating system is on the verge of transforming the future of India and its impact on the world. How have we brought you a discussion on BharOS so you can know what it has in store for you?

What Is BharOS?

As the name suggests, BharOS is India’s very own operating system. It was developed by IIT Madras as a result of a government-funded project. The project aimed to develop an open-source operating system that would be free to all. It is different from Android and iOS in many ways. It instills a sense of independence from foreign operating systems, which is an excellent move for India. This operating system also allows users to choose the applications they want on their phones.

It is because of the fact that it comes with No Default Apps (NDA). The users can download the applications they feel secure about. They can set permissions for the apps and get access to organization-specific Private App Store Services (PASS).

Like Google’s Android Operating system, BharOS has associations with the Android Open Source Project. But it also has differences compared to Android and iOS. It is because it does not have Google services or apps.

Which Company Is Associated With BharOS?

BharOS is a result of JandK Operations Private Limited (JandKops). It has its incubation center in IIT Madras as a part of the Not for Profit Section 8 company, IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation. The project is a part of the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NMICPS). It received funding from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) under the Government of India.

Conclusion

BharOS is an excellent initiative by the Government of India towards ‘Make in India.’ It is an operating system based in India and it is meant to offer its users complete independence and flexibility regarding their applications. It is because it does not come with any default apps. BharOS is all set to bring a new revolution in Indian technology.
